No telescope, eclipse glasses sold out, more visitors than expected? Here is a simple activity that works with common materials such as card board and household items.
Projecting the Sun by the dozen
What’s the idea? Create the effect of the Sun shining through the leaves of a tree projecting an image of the Sun on the floor through each hole. How to do it? Cut squares or triangles into a sheet of card board. Have the Sun shine through the holes projecting solar images on a white board. Experiment with distance and size of holes.Template array of holes
Template spots and streaksExperiment with any perforated material you may find, in particular things with square and triangular holes.

Here is what we will be using at FHNW.
This activity has been inspired by Bob Miller’s Light Walk at the Exploratorium. The effect of the solar eclipse projected by the dozen will be amazing.
Have fun and take pictures!
