European Researcher’s Night is a yearly event that allows researchers to showcase their work to the general public. Science events took place simultaneously across Europe on the 30th September 2016. The Solar and Space Weather Group at Trinity College Dublin (TCD) decided to bring some sunshine to a damp autumn evening in Dublin during TCD’s Probe event, which was funded under the Marie Sklodowska-Curie Actions.
We projected some movies from the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly instrument onboard NASA’s Solar Dynamic Observatory’s under the Campanile, one of TCD’s landmarks. We used images from three AIA wavelengths (171 Å, 211 Å, and 304 Å) from the previous few days. It was a great opportunity to tell passers by all about space weather!
